Three Schools and One Big First-Gen Celebration

Geisinger College of Health Sciences

On November 14, 2024, the Schools of Medicine, Graduate Education, and Nursing came together to celebrate the achievements of our first-generation college students. Organized by the Geisinger First Gen Student Support Committee, this inspiring event was held online, at the main college location in Scranton, PA, and at the school of nursing in Lewistown, PA.

The celebration kicked off with an address by Dr. Nicole Ferentino, Assistant Director, the Center for Learning Excellence. The event featured heartfelt speeches from both alumni and current students. Our student speaker, Chase Minnich stated, “What is going to stick with me is being allowed to share my story to other students.” Chase went on to discuss the support he received from the college as both a graduate student and now a first-year medical student. The event concluded with a fun and interactive trivia game hosted by Mr. Len Farber, Director of Student Affairs, School of Graduate Education.

What is going to stick with me is being allowed to share my story to other students.

The game highlighted notable statistics about first-generation college students and famous first-generation college graduates. Don’t miss the chance to relive this memorable event!
